As gas prices continue to climb, President Donald Trump and some U.S. lawmakers have floated the idea of suspending the 18-cent federal gas tax.

Energy Secretary Chris Wright said Sunday the Trump administration is "open" to suspending the federal gasoline tax as prices surge amid the Iran War.

Average gas prices have soared by more than 50% since the start of the Iran war.

Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO) and Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL) have pledged to introduce legislation to suspend the federal gas tax.
