King Charles III has praised the “American leadership”, speaking after president Donald Trump at the state dinner hosted at the White House in Washington D.C., on Tuesday (28 April). He hailed the US-UK alliance to combat global challenges over time. “American leadership helped rebuild a shattered continent playing a decisive role as a defender of freedom.” King Charles then went on to appreciate America’s contribution towards Ukraine in the Russia war as “freedom is again under attack.” “Today, our partnerships in Nato and AUKUS deepen our technological and military cooperation and ensure that together we can meet the challenges of an increasingly complex and contested world”, he added. This comes after Trump’s constant threats to leave Nato, calling it “paper tiger” primarily because he claims allies have failed to support America in the Iran war.

A rift between the U.K. government and Donald Trump over issues including the Iran war has raised the political stakes for the British monarch's visit.

Following another shooting in which he may well have been the target, Donald Trump assured Britain that King Charles would be safe during his state visit.
