Two wildfires in Georgia have burned thousands of acres and more than 100 homes over a couple of days amid extreme drought in the Southeast.

The blazes have prompted evacuations and school closings.

The wildfires continue in both states as drought conditions continue to fuel the flames.

Two of the fires have led to unprecedented losses of homes, with dozens destroyed and more in danger, Gov. Brian Kemp said.

Two major fires in the southeast of the state – the Pineland Road Fire and the Highway 82 fire have burned more than 39,500 acres.

Wildfires are rapidly spreading across northern Florida and southern Georgia, forcing evacuations.
