Esther Rantzen’s daughter says assisted dying bill failing is ‘democratic vandalism’

Dame Esther Rantzen's daughter, Rebecca Wilcox, has described the fall of the assisted dying bill as "democratic vandalism." The Terminally Ill Adults (End of Life) Bill, which has been making its way through Parliament for the past year and a half, is expected to fall without a vote at the end of a debate in the upper chamber on Friday (24 April) in its last scheduled sitting before the end of this session. Dame Esther, who has terminal cancer, is one of the Bill’s most high-profile supporters. Ms Wilcox wrote on Instagram: "This is a shameful moment for UK democracy. But we will not stop campaigning until everyone has the choice to die without pain. And that includes those who choose not to. That’s how choice works. "How many more people will die in needless agony because of this democratic vandalism?"
