Uber said it plans to invest $1.25 billion into Rivian Automotive to launch 50,000 autonomous robotaxis around the world, the company said.

Uber plans to invest up to $1.25 billion in Rivian as part of a deal to deploy up to 50,000 robotaxis in several countries through 2031.

The ride-hailing giant will begin deploying fully autonomous Rivian R2s in San Francisco and Miami in 2028, expanding to 25 cities by 2031.
