The outbreak affected 104 passengers and 49 crew members, with most experiencing symptoms of vomiting and diarrhoea. Princess Cruises said that sanitation teams disinfected the ship and isolated those who were unwell to prevent further spread. The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is conducting an environmental assessment and outbreak investigation into the incident. Norovirus is a highly contagious virus commonly associated with cruise ships due to close quarters, though such outbreaks account for only about one per cent of all reported cases nationwide.
