BAGHDAD: Iraq’s electricity ministry said on Wednesday that the entire country had been affected by a blackout, later attributing it to a sudden drop in gas supplies to a key power plant. “The power grid has completely shut down across all Iraqi provinces,” the ministry said, according to the Iraqi News Agency (INA). It later announced that a “sudden drop in gas supplies to the Rumaila power plant” in the southern province of Basra led to a rapid loss of 1,900 megawatts, which triggered the outage. It added that work was underway to gradually restore power.
