Canadian prime minister Mark Carney affirmed that he supports US-Israeli strikes in Iran, despite taking the position “with regret.” Speaking at a signing ceremony in Sydney, Australia, on Wednesday (4 March), Mr Carney reiterated that Canada “stands with the Iranian people in their long and courageous struggle against the regime's oppressive rule,” and supports efforts to prevent Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon and “further threatening international peace and security.” While Carney backed the strikes, he described the current conflict as "another example of the failure of the international order.” Carney is currently in Sydney to strengthen Indo-Pacific relations and secure new investment for the Canadian economy.

The prime minister said Canada has long supported "neutralising this grave global threat" that Iran poses, but called for a de-escalation of hostilities.
