Speaking at the White House on Monday (2 March), the US president, who was meant to be posthumously honouring troops who have died in conflict, began gushing about his $400m renovation project. “I picked those drapes in my first term - I always liked gold,” he said. “I believe it’s going to be the most beautiful ballroom anywhere in the world.” He added that his wife, First Lady Melania Trump, was not a fan of the construction noise, but that he himself had "liked" it. Trump then returned to discussing the ongoing Middle Eastern conflict.
