President Donald Trump said Friday that he was ordering every U.S. government agency to “immediately cease” using technology from the artificial intelligence company Anthropic.

Hours after its competitor was punished, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman announced that his company struck a deal with the Pentagon to supply its AI to classified military networks.

Trump’s comments came just over an hour before the Pentagon’s deadline for Anthropic to allow unrestricted military use of its AI technology or face consequences.

Trump added that if Anthropic doesn’t obey, he will use “the Full Power of the Presidency to make them comply.”

There has been a weeks-long feud between Pentagon and Anthropic over concerns about how military could use AI at war.
