The Emirati capital of Abu Dhabi hosted Russia-US-Ukraine talks on January 23-24

The meeting between the three countries comes as both Ukraine and Russia say no peace deal can be reached until territorial issues are resolved.

Hosted by Abu Dhabi, representatives from Russia, Ukraine and the United States sat down for talks on ending the war in Ukraine for the first time.

The Russian delegation was headed by Igor Kostyukov, chief of the Main Directorate of the General Staff of the Russian Army

The spokesperson said the talks were held in a 'constructive and positive atmosphere'

According to him, the talks included "direct engagement" between Russian and Ukrainian officials
