Vice President JD Vance was needed Wednesday to vote in the Senate for the Republicans to quash a Democratic effort to rein in President Donald Trump's ability to attack Venezuela.

Two of five Republican senators who earlier supported the bill were successfully flipped after pressure from President Donald Trump.

Only three Republicans joined with Democrats to vote in favour of the resolution, resulting in a tie broken by JD Vance.
