Safety inspections at a bar struck by a deadly fire on New Year's Eve had not been carried out for the past five years, Swiss officials admitted Tuesday. The bar's French owners, who face charges for negligence and manslauger, said in their first public statements since the tragedy that they were 'devastated' and 'overwhelmed with grief.'

The managers are suspected of committing homicide, causing bodily harm and arson by negligence.

Prosecutors on Saturday said the two people who ran the bar are now under investigation suspected of crimes including homicide by negligence.
