The moon, also known as the cold moon, will be the closest it has been to Earth all month, making it appear bigger and brighter.

The last full moon of the year will also be a supermoon, appearing slightly larger and brighter than usual when it rises Thursday night, forecasters say.

December's full Cold Moon occurs on Dec. 4 and rises higher into the night sky than any other, but skywatchers will have to wait until Dec. 5 to watch it rise.
