LONDON: Ahmad Al-Sharaa has become the first president of the Syrian Arab Republic to attend an annual UN Climate Change Conference. He arrived on Thursday in Belem, Brazil, which is hosting the 2025 event, COP30, and was greeted by Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva. The conference, which will run from Nov. 10 to 21, gathers representatives of more than 190 countries, including heads of state, ministers and other international leaders, to address urgent issues related to climate change and agree commitments for tackling them.
