TEL AVIV, Israel: Israel said on Tuesday it has identified the body of a hostage that was released by Palestinian militants overnight, while the chief Hamas negotiator said the group is determined to implement the ceasefire agreement to end the two-year war. US Vice President JD Vance was expected in the region later in the day to shore up the fragile ceasefire, which has teetered over the past few days. Israel confirmed that Hamas released the body of Tal Haimi, who was killed in the Hamas-led Oct. 7, 2023 attack that ignited the war.

Israeli military says it has remains of Ronen Engel, one of two bodies returned by Hamas late on Saturday

Before Monday, Hamas had handed over all living hostages and 12 out of 28 deceased hostages under a ceasefire.
