The American financial analysis firm downgraded the country's sovereign rating from AA− to A+ on Friday, taking markets by surprise by doing so outside its previously announced schedule.

In response to the downgrade, Finance Minister Roland Lescure said the government 'reaffirms its determination to meet the deficit target of 5.4% of GDP for 2025.'
