PEN America’s report revealed a ‘story of two countries,’ with most bans on LGBTQ and race content coming from Florida, Texas, and Tennessee.

PEN America's latest report comes amid ongoing censorship efforts not just from states and conservative activists, but from the federal government.

Since July 2021, PEN America has documented more than 22,800 cases of book bans across 45 states and 451 public school districts.
