The ship had altered its five-day Bahamas itinerary to avoid Tropical Storm Imelda, sailing instead to Mexican ports. Crew members spotted the distressed group signalling for help on the evening of Sunday 28 September. The 12 individuals were brought aboard, provided with medical care and water, and the Mexican coastguard was contacted. This incident follows a similar event earlier this year where another Royal Caribbean ship, Brilliance of the Seas, rescued 11 people in the Gulf of Mexico.
