The assailant, identified by police as Thomas Jacob Sanford, 40, rammed his truck into the church, opened fire with an assault rifle, and set the building ablaze with gasoline. The attack resulted in four fatalities and nine injuries, with authorities stating that additional victims may be found within the burned church remains. Sanford was killed in a gunfight with police who responded to the scene within minutes; investigators later discovered explosives during their inquiry. Sanford was a US Marine Corps veteran who served in Iraq, and police are currently investigating his motive for the attack.
