It was the first time in nearly 30 years that Colombia had been added to the list, a sign of fraying ties between the White House and the country's leftist president.

President Donald Trump on Monday night added U.S. ally Colombia to a list of countries failing to live up to their counter-narcotic obligations.

US President Trump also places Afghanistan, Bolivia, Myanmar and Venezuela on list of states who failed to fight drugs.

President Gustavo Petro lamented the decision, saying that all these efforts combine “to stop North American society from smearing its noses” in cocaine.

For the first time in almost three decades Colombia loses its certification as a US ally in the war on drugs.
