Muslim deputy leader of UK’s Green Party suffers racist attack

LONDON: The new deputy leader of the UK’s Green Party and his family were the victims of a racist attack last week, he told The Guardian. Mothin Ali, a Leeds councillor who was born in Sheffield and has lived in Yorkshire all his life, was elected joint deputy leader of the party this week. During a trip to the coastal town of Cromer in Norfolk, he and his mother, wife and children were racially abused and attacked by a group on the beach. “It was a lovely sunny day. I’d been building sandcastles and catching shrimps in rock pools with my six-year-old,” he told The Guardian.
