Labour MP Rushanara Ali has tonight resigned as homelessness minister after she allegedly threw out her own tenants and then raised rent on her London home by £700.

Rushanara Ali was accused of ‘staggering hypocrisy’ after a report that she kicked out her tenants and raised the rent by hundreds of pounds.

It comes after she increased rent on a house she owns within weeks of the previous tenants' contracts ending.

The resignation is a blow for the Labour government, which trails Nigel Farage’s right-wing Reform UK party in polls.
