The number of people known to be missing in Central Texas flooding last week has risen dramatically to 173 people, Governor Greg Abbott revealed Tuesday.

More than 160 people are still missing in the state as officials continue arduous search and rescue efforts.

A young police officer, a beloved teacher, and young and adult campers are among at least 111 people who have died in the flooding in Central Texas.

The death toll in the central Texas flooding is up to 119 people, 95 of them in Kerr County, including 36 children.
