“If somebody were to get out, there's nowhere to run, nowhere to hide — only the alligators and pythons are waiting,” Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier said.

Immigrant advocates said the move creates a whole new form of detention outside the scope of the federal government.

The facility could be completed within months and have the capacity to hold around 1,000 people.
