One day after Department of Homeland Security officers infringed upon their home amid nearly two weeks of heightened tension in Los Angeles, the Dodgers on Friday announced a $1 million "commitment" toward financial assistance for families of immigrants "impacted by recent events in the region."

The Dodgers, who are set to host the San Diego Padres on Thursday night, said the game will be played as scheduled.

The baseball team is also expected to announce plans to assist immigrants who have been impacted by the raids in the city, US media report.

The Dodgers' Latino fan base has been part of the team's identity at least since the "Fernandomania" craze surrounding Mexican-born pitcher Fernando Valenzuela in the 1980s.
