Twenty people were on board the de Havilland Canada DHC-6 Twin Otter when an 'unknown issue' caused the pilot to lose control of the vessel on Sunday afternoon.

Some of those on board were airlifted to hospitals, the Tennessee Highway Patrol said.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol said that there was between 16 to 20 people on board the aircraft, some of whom have been taken by airlift to nearby hospitals.
