t was only in the process of writing a book about himself that Keir Starmer discovered it might be a bad idea. It may have happened at the point at which, after having agreed to write it, he bought a lot of similar books for research purposes and discovered that they had all been written after the author had been prime minister, as opposed to before.
There are many reasons for this. One of the main ones is that it tends to be after you’ve been prime minister that you find you’ve suddenly got the time on your hands. The point in your life at which you are trying very hard to become prime minister is, you would think, quite busy.
