These are the mangled remains of a £186,000 Ferrari after it slammed into a tree while overtaking an off-duty police officer.

The luxury sports car - thought to be a Roma model - was left wedged between tree trunks with its bonnet hanging off after it slid into the patch of woodland in bad weather.

The driver had been heading along the M40 Southbound near Warwick, West Midlands on New Year's Eve when they drove past the officer 'at speed'.

But the wet conditions combined with the motor's powerful V8 engine meant the motor - which can hit speeds of almost 200mph - skidded off the road.

Remarkably, the driver walked away with just minor injuries after their airbag deployed - and police confirmed no one else was involved in the smash.
