he government is reported to be planning new initiatives to reduce the number of people signed off work due to ill health, including improving their fitness and self- esteem through programmes such as NHS Couch to 5k that claims, in 9 weeks, to be able to help non-runners jog for at least 3 miles.
The details of the proposals are patchy, but it got me thinking about how I got off my couch and became a runner, and what I learnt on the way. And I hope my story may encourage some of you to follow suit.
