The solicitors’ watchdog has begun an investigation into law firms accused of taking thousands of pounds to help economic migrants submit false asylum claims.
In a letter to the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA), Alex Chalk, the justice secretary, called on it to wield the “full force of sanctions” against those responsible.
An investigation by the Daily Mail this week revealed that a number of solicitors had agreed to help an undercover reporter posing as an economic migrant to submit a fake application in exchange for £10,000.
