‘Dear Scottish Power customer, sorry that you are dead. Please pay your bill’

achael Manamley had a letter from Scottish Power in December addressed to the executors of her estate saying that it was sorry to hear of her death, and that she owed the energy supplier money.

Manamley, 53, was not dead. Nor was she a Scottish Power customer. She was, however, the executor of her uncle’s will and he had been a customer — Scottish Power actually owed him £93.

Carl Green died in March 2021 and after his house was sold the following September, Manamley tried to recoup his energy credit.
