dam Ficek felt like he was at the centre of the world. It was the Noughties and he was the drummer for Babyshambles, an indie-rock band known for hard drugs and cancelled gigs, chain-smoking and skinny jeans, fronted by the tabloids’ favourite Camden caner, Pete Doherty, and cheered on by Kate Moss, his girlfriend at the time. “A lot of it is a blur,” says Ficek, 49. “It was chaos, the most glorious, shambolic of experiences you could imagine.”

Today, Ficek’s life looks a little different. He has a PhD in clinical psychology and works as a psychotherapist, practising out of his home office in Hertfordshire, surrounded by bookshelves and pot plants. His clients are professional musicians, many of them household names.
