’Twas the night before Christmas when RTE probably realised it was about to lose hundreds of thousands on its production of Toy Show: The Musical. Covid had spread among the cast of children and adult crew in the week before Christmas, forcing RTE to cancel all shows due to take place on December 17 and 18.
When more of the cast fell victim to the virus, two more shows due to take place on Christmas week — on December 21 and 22 — were cancelled, forcing RTE to offer full refunds or accept a 25 per cent discount on tickets to attend a show on another date.
