ducation is Sir Keir Starmer’s big theme at the moment. Education, education, education. And it’s not just the underprivileged young children of Britain the Labour leader wants to smarten up.

Last week, it was reported that Starmer is also sending his shadow cabinet back to school, to prepare for what he hopes will be a long spell in government.

MPs are to learn how to run departments and deal with civil servants. The headmistress, of course, will be none other than Sue Gray, who takes over as Starmer’s chief of staff in September, just in time for the beginning of the autumn term.
