The coronation has accelerated the Jamaican government’s plans for a referendum on whether to keep King Charles as head of state, according to a senior minister.
Marlene Malahoo Forte, Jamaica’s minister for legal and constitutional affairs, said Charles was as “foreign as it gets” in the Caribbean country and that the “time has come” to remove the British monarch from his place in the island’s constitution.
