April 28 (UPI) -- Wild On Ice suffered a fatal injury Thursday at Churchill Downs while training for the Kentucky Derby, layering sadness onto the normal backstretch tensions and nerves with the Run for the Roses just more than a week away.
The misfortune opened a spot in the Derby starting gate for Santa Anita Derby third-place finisher Skinner.
