New York City is braced for protests in the final hours before Donald Trump appears at a Lower Manhattan courthouse to face accusations he paid hush money to the adult film star Stormy Daniels.

About four miles south of Trump Tower, where the former president was preparing with his legal team, a field of white tents bloomed opposite the court at 100 Centre Street to house the massed camera crews.

A queue for those hoping to gain admission to the court formed along the side of an adjacent court building.
