A 14-year-old boy dubbed 'El Chapito' has been arrested after allegedly opening fire on a family birthday party in a drug-related mass shooting that left eight people dead in Mexico.

The young teenager, nicknamed after the infamous Mexican drug lord Joaquin 'El Chapo' Guzman, is said to have rode up on a motorcycle and opened fire on a family in the low-income Mexico City suburb of Chimalhuacan on January 22.

Another man, known as El Nono, was arrested in connection with the shooting, while seven others gang members were charged with drug-related crimes, according to the federal Public Safety Department. The 14-year-old boy's real name was not released.

The family were reportedly celebrating a birthday party at the time of the savage attack, which also left five adults and two children including a three-year-old child, wounded.
