According to new research, the accepted eight-glasses-a-day recommendation might be too much for many of us. Certainly for those of us living in the British climate, where I can go weeks without breaking a sweat. Many adults will only need between 1.5 and 1.8 litres a day, or 6 to 7 glasses: and, in even better take-that-and-put-your-glass-straw-in-it news, that measure includes milk, sugar-free drinks, tea and coffee. Coffee!

This is bad news for, say, any woman over the age of 30, who grew up drinking in the notion that hydration equals success —
