June 7 (UPI) -- Seven states, including California, will stage Democratic and Republican primaries on Tuesday for a number of important races that will be on the ballot in November, when the GOP hopes to take control of Congress.

Some observers feel that two of the California races could be a bellwether for conservatives and progressives nationwide come November.

Republican challengers backed by former President Donald Trump are hoping to oust multiple incumbents in Tuesday's races, which are being held in California, Iowa, Mississippi, Montana, New Jersey, New Mexico and South Dakota.

Two of the most prominent races on Tuesday are both in California -- where there's a recall effort against San Francisco District Attorney Chesa Boudin and a crowded race to replace Eric Garcetti as mayor of Los Angeles.
