Residents of a Lithuanian village where NATO air policing fighters shot down a drone in the early hours of Tuesday described a tense night of explosions, aircraft and flashing lights that left some fearing the worst.

The drone was destroyed near the village of Pratkūnai in the Kaišiadorys district early Tuesday. Residents told LRT.lt they heard the drone and military aircraft before and after it was intercepted.

Vitalija, a local resident, said she heard the sound of the drone flying overhead.

“It was a strong sound, as if a war had started. There was also a light,” she said.

Another resident, Virginija, said she was anxious despite having received similar warnings before.
