Elsa / Getty ImagesSept. 14, 2026 Updated 6:59 pm EDTFRISCO, Texas — The news wasn’t all bad regarding the Dallas Cowboys’ injuries coming out of Sunday night’s 28-20 loss to the New York Giants.Starting safety Malik Hooker fractured his forearm and will have surgery Tuesday, but he is expected to miss only a couple of weeks.Starting inside linebacker DeMarvion Overshown suffered a strained hamstring. He’s also only expected to miss a week or two.“We’ll see how he does, but nothing long term,” Cowboys coach Brian Schottenheimer said Monday. The plan is for P.J. Locke to fill in at safety for Hooker. While rookie defensive back Caleb Downs could handle those duties, the Cowboys prefer to keep him as their nickel corner, allowing him to play in a variety of ways closer to the line of scrimmage.Rookie Jaishawn Barham will get an increase in playing time because of Overshown’s injury.“Jaishawn got some valuable playtime (Sunday night),” Schottenheimer said, “did some good things, did some things that he needs to improve on. Shemar James is a valued member of our football team, very smart, very bright. And then obviously we’ve got some guys on practice squad that we’ve got elevations. Curtis Robinson is a veteran. He’s played a lot of football in this league as well. And then Justin Barron’s a guy we have a lot of high expectations for.”Sep 14, 2026Connections: Sports EditionSpot the pattern.
