Much to the dismay of the fantasy community, Cleveland is sticking with Deshaun Watson at quarterback for at least one more week. He was dreadful against Jacksonville and his team was not at all competitive. Watson’s fantasy day received a dusting of deodorant inside the final two minutes when he connected with rookie receiver Denzel Boston on a long score, but the Browns were trailing 34-3 at the time. Watson finished with just 16 completions and one interception while being sacked five times. Cleveland went 1-for-8 on third downs and committed 11 penalties.Again: Dreadful.Apparently it was not quite bad enough for Watson to be removed as Cleveland’s starting quarterback, however. As The Athletic’s Zac Jackson reported on Monday, Browns head coach Todd Monken plans to stay the course with Watson in the upcoming matchup against Tampa Bay.In the interests of tanking for draft position, it’s a great call. Watson simply has not been a good quarterback since 2020. This is definitely a short-term fantasy problem, however. We can’t trust any of our Browns while Watson is at the controls. Boston, KC Concepcion, Harold Fannin and Quinshon Judkins are all fun players, but this team’s offense is being actively sabotaged with Watson behind center. It absolutely will not be worse with Shedeur Sanders at the controls, which we are likely to see in Week 3 at home against the Panthers. Benching all Browns temporarily seems reasonable. Fire up the Bucs defense this week, though.
The fantasy impact of Cleveland’s doomed Deshaun Watson decision for Week 2
It's hard to find many positives in Deshaun Watson's Week 1 performance, but the Cleveland quarterback will get another shot in Week 2.
