Arch Manning led Texas to a 20-point second-half comeback against Ohio State on Saturday to vault the Longhorns into the No. 1 spot in the polls. It was a huge moment for a quarterback who had yet to prove himself in a big game at the college level. It wasn’t enough to make him the early-season favorite to win the Heisman Trophy, though.That spot still belongs to Miami quarterback Darian Mensah. In fact, Manning isn’t even the highest in the odds among players from that Texas-Ohio State game. Buckeyes wide receiver Jeremiah Smith is ahead of Manning as well.Mensah leads the way with +550 odds on both FanDuel and DraftKings. Smith is +700 on both sportsbooks with Manning at +850 on FanDuel and +1000 on DraftKings.Mensah and Miami beat Florida A&M 77-7 on Thursday. The junior quarterback was 14-for-15 for 252 yards and three touchdowns. The score and the stats barely matter against Florida A&M, but it is worth noting that even in a week when his team played an FCS opponent, Mensah’s odds to win the Heisman got shorter. He was in the +600 to +650 range last week and is now +550.That’s because even though Manning had a hot fourth quarter and a big win, his overall numbers — and the Texas offense in general — were just OK. Manning was 23-for-37 for only 195 yards with one touchdown and a comically unlucky interception.
