Oman’s Foreign Minister Badr Albusaidi announced on Sunday that a regional meeting scheduled to be held in Salalah on Monday has been postponed “to ensure consensus”.
Albusaidi wrote on X: In the interests of consensus the regional meeting set for tomorrow in Salalah has been postponed. We remain committed to fostering dialogue that supports stability and lasting cooperation in our region,”
The meeting was due to take place in Salalah on Monday, with the participation of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states and Iran, as part of efforts to de-escalate tensions and open direct dialogue channels between the two sides amid the ongoing US-Iran war, which began in February, and reciprocal attacks in the Strait of Hormuz.
Former Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim bin Jaber Al Thani had earlier called for the meeting to succeed, saying he had always advocated collective and direct talks between the GCC states and Iran to find a way out of the crisis.
The postponement comes as the region faces rapidly escalating military tensions, with the United States continuing its military and economic campaign against Iran, amid ongoing attacks on Saudi energy facilities and rising tensions in the Strait of Hormuz and the Red Sea.
