Exit poll suggests far-right Sweden Democrats would have their worst election result since joining the Swedish parliament
Sweden’s election remained too close to call on Sunday night, but the first exit polls put the Social Democrat led opposition clearly ahead.
The four mainly left leaning or liberal opposition parties received 51.3% of the vote against 46.8% for the governing right-wing bloc, according to an exit poll published by public broadcaster SVT as polling stations closed.
If borne out by the official count, the result would put Social Democrat leader Magdalena Andersson in pole position to return as prime minister after four years in opposition.
The Sweden Democrats , an anti-immigrant nationalist party, was projected on 17.2% down from the 20.5% they won in 2022. If borne out, that would mark the party’s first decline in a parliamentary election since it entered the Riksdag in 2010.
