On his visit to Ireland this weekend, Donald Trump told journalists that Ukraine should stop striking Russian diesel refineries because it was “hurting the world”.
Speaking about Volodymyr Zelensky on Sunday, he said his Ukrainian counterpart “has to stop knocking out diesel fuel in Russia”.
“We spoke to Mr. Zelenskyy about it. There are plenty of other targets,” Trump added, in a message that is sure to unsettle Kyiv and its European allies.

Never mind that the US’s war against Iran caused the spike in diesel and petrol prices, or that Ukraine is fighting for its life against Vladimir Putin’s forces. In Trump’s mind, the quick solution to diesel prices hitting $6 a gallon in the US appears to be to blame a country that is supposed to be an ally and was invaded by a foreign aggressor.
