Mercantile Bank PLC has signed a participation agreement with Bangladesh Bank under the central bank’s Tk 5,000 crore CMSME Working Capital Refinance Fund, aimed at disbursing loans to cottage, micro, small and medium enterprises (CMSMEs) at low interest rates and on flexible terms.Md Zabdul Islam, director of the SME and Special Programmes Department of Bangladesh Bank, and Md Zahid Hossain, deputy managing director and chief business officer of Mercantile Bank PLC, signed the agreement at the central bank’s headquarters in Dhaka recently, according to a press release.Md Anis Ur Rahman, deputy governor of Bangladesh Bank, attended the signing ceremony as the chief guest.The fund was formed under the Tk 60,000 crore stimulus package declared by Bangladesh Bank to provide working capital, boost production capacity and generate employment.Under the fund, active CMSME enterprises will receive financing facilities at an interest rate of only 9 percent.Among others, Nahid Rahman, executive director of Bangladesh Bank; Shahanaj Pervin, additional director; and Mohammad Nizamul Hoque, head of SME financing at Mercantile Bank PLC, were also present.
