Chinese President Xi Jinping has urged BRICS countries to play a peacemaker role in the Middle East conflict, offering Beijing’s support for joint efforts to achieve peace and stability in the region.According to Reuters, which cited Chinese state-run broadcaster CCTV, Xi made the call while addressing the summit of member countries in New Delhi on Saturday (September 12).Separately, according to Xinhua, Xi said China was willing to work with fellow BRICS members towards peace in the Middle East and the Gulf region.“China is willing to work with fellow BRICS members to play a role in achieving peace and stability in the Middle East and the Gulf region,” Xi said on the sidelines of the summit, according to Xinhua.“The war has caused serious losses to people across the region and does not serve the common interests of the international community,” he said.Besides, Reuters, citing CCTV, reported that Xi described BRICS as a “leading group” in the Global South and a model of self-reliance among emerging and developing countries.He called on the bloc to promote innovation-driven development.Furthermore, according to CCTV, as reported by Reuters, Xi said China would assume the BRICS chairmanship next year and host the 19th BRICS summit.Published on September 12, 2026
